[Galanis, Demetrios (1879 - 1966): Greek painter, engraver, sketch
artist with an international career. Athens Polytechnic University
graduate. Studied drawing with
Greek painter Nikiphoros Lytras, studied at Ecole des Beaux-Arts de
Paris with teachers like F.
Cormon and B. Constant. He published his drawings at the Soleil de
Dimanche,
Frou-Frou, Le Rire, Le Sourire, L'Assiette au Beurre, Le Canard
Souvage, and others. In 1909 he settled at Monmarte and socialized with
J. Gris, A.
Matisse, P. Picasso, G. Braque, A. Derain.
Demetrios Galanis has had many solo exhibitions in Paris, London,
New York, Alexandria, Cairo, Lausanne, Biennale of Venice, Thessaloniki,
Athens. He has won many distinctions and awards. His works are located
in Greece and abroad in many museums, galleries, banks and private
collections. He has been a member of the Academy of Athens since 1950].
